Activision warn sales may be impacted by next-gen consoles

Activision have confirmed a new Call of Duty will be released in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Activision CFO Dennis Durkin said that the game would \"set the bar for innovation\", but warned that sales would likely be impacted by the arrival of next-gen consoles. This could be true, especially if the news we posted yesterday goes ahead. \'New Xbox \'will block second hand games\'

Dennis Durkin\"The Call of Duty franchise continues to set the bar for innovation and we expect a new Call of Duty game in development for 2013 to raise that bar even higher,\" Durkin explained.

\"There is increased volatility this year due to the ongoing console transition, which makes predicting the future more challenging than during normal uses in the cycle.

\"For Call of Duty, consistent with our past practices, we are planning for the main line release in Q4 to be down versus 2012.\"

Last year\'s Call of Duty release was of course Black Ops 2 which means this years will most likely be a new addition to the Modern Warfare series. Although, Black Ops 2 outperformed the Modern Warfare series, generating $1 billion within 15 days of its release. This means Infinity Ward may decide to change things in order to catch up.
